Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the Croatian language as a self-determined phenomenon, also with the need for its improvement and cultivation in keeping with its authentic character. Defining Croatian in contrast to Serbian is rejected, and the suggestion is made to replace the term Serbo-Croatian with Middle South Slav in comparative linguistics as well.
