Summary/Abstract: The history of the Church, and especially the history of spirituality, provides countless facts which, from the perspective of the Christian faith, are seen as special interventions of God, asked by believers through the mediation and intercession of Our Lady. Therefore the Mariological teaching of the Church and Marian devotion recommend to invoke the Mother of Jesus in various crisis situations of our life as the “Refuge of sinners”, the “Comforter of the afflicted”, the “Advocate” and “Mediatrix”, and also as the “Mother of reliable hope”. The asking the protection of the Mother of God is expressed in numerous prayers. The author in the article analyses the above-mentioned Marian titles and presents three selected, the oldest and Church-approved antiphons: “We flee to thy patronage” (Sub Tuum praesidium), “Hail Holy Queen” (Salve Regina) and “Mother of the Redeemer” (Alma Redemptoris Mater).
