L’écart traductif, stratégie ou dérapage ?

Summary/Abstract: The article addresses the possibility to establish guidelines in determining the boundary between deviations from formal correspondence and translation failures, starting from a brief discussion of the concepts of translation faithfulness and translation freedom. In fact, the analysis of the bilingual texts (French-Romanian, in our study) published, for the most part, during the last decades shows, sometimes, that certain choices made by translators can prove to be difficult to understand if not wrong. The article also provides a typology of the most frequent translation errors found in the analysed corpus. We hope that these deviations (of various types) from the source texts that have become case studies in this article can help future translators, as well as beginner translators, to show due regard to source texts.
