He was a personality representing the first strata of intellectuals that emerged during the 19th century in our coun try and fascinated those who leaned toward knowledge of the Romanian’s development. The references to Petrache Poenaru present us as an engineer, mathematician, inventor, educator, outlaw pandur, academician, creator of the tricolor and the first Romanian newspaper. This paper is a tribute to 140 years after Petrache Poenaru’s death.
