Summary/Abstract: In this article we discuss the presence and activity of the Jesuit order in Cluj (Kolozsvár, Klausenburg), between 1595 and 1610. Located in Transylvania, with an overwhelmingly Protestantpopulation, Cluj was the home of a reputed Jesuit College. Unfortunately, the political context did not favor the order’s presence in this area: in the summer of 1603, the monks were banished from the city after a citizens’ riot.
