Summary/Abstract: The present study reveals the existence of a Russian military necropolis at Jitianu Monastery in Dolj County. The soldiers buried here died in the military hospital sheltered by and functioning in this monastery during the Russo-Turkish War of 1828-1829. Next to them, there was a common grave in which were buried the inhabitants of Craiova who died of the plague in the second year of the war (1829). Also, the study provides information about all the graves of Russian soldiers in Dolj County and about the monument built in Craiova in 1831 in honour of the Russian heroes.
