Summary/Abstract: The article presents disputes around the ways of collecting data on smog in Poland. The theoretical framework of the analysis is science and technology studies, and in particular the research on the role of infrastructures, standards and data. First, the role of measuring infrastructure in shaping relationships between various entities involved in the measurement of air quality is described. Next, the the two dimensions of the conflict are analyzed. One of them concerns methodological issues and is related to the reliability of measurement. The other is related to the ontology of smog, i.e. a different approach to the problem of pollution by experts and citizens, which influences social practices.
