Summary/Abstract: The existence of God is a subject of debate in the emerging various philosophical views as well as in the scientific research of Fr. Franciszek Sawicki (1877–1952). Perceiving the problems of contemporary philosophy of God and religion, he recognizes the necessity to correct solutions developed by the Scholastic philosophical system. Referring to this issue, Sawicki sees two basic aporias to be solved. The first is the question whether the proof of the existence of God is possible at all through the use of scientific tools of philosophy. This is related to the influence of Kant’s thoughts and denying the status of knowledge to metaphysics. According to Sawicki, the ubiquitous influence of this type of tendencies, however, has been broken, which is manifested by increasingly loud voices outside the circle of Christian philosophical thought about the possibility of practicing metaphysics. The second problem is the question of the significance of this evidence for religion, especially in the context of the modern philosophy of religion since the times of Kant and Schleiermacher, that religious faith in God was not based on philosophical considerations, but she had a different beginning, unrelated to metaphysics. These two fundamental questions oblige Sawicki to address the issue of evidence for the existence of God, which should start with a clear defined concept of God. Evidence, due to its structure and assumptions, explains this concept. However, it is necessary to adopt a preliminary idea to designate a specific course and scope of reasoning. Sawicki emphasizes the primacy of rational cognition, but at the same time he postulates the inclusion of other factors, including irrational ones, in view of the impossibility of providing a positive and full recognition of God through intellectual reflection. The way of faith is a complementary and alternative cognitive path in relation to reason, allowing one to enter into a relationship of personal dialogue with God. A person experiencing God on the path of faith, must accept the impossibility of deepening the mystery of God. In return, inner harmony and meaning to its own existence is achieved.
