Summary/Abstract: The article includes a brief presentation and analysis, from a multidisciplinary perspective, of the latest developments in promoting education for sustainable development in the context of negotiating, developing and finalizing the 2030 Agenda adopted by the UN Summit on 25 September 2015 entitled ”Transforming our World: the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development”. Efforts to move from the challenges of sustainable development to aspirations aimed at contributing to the proclamation of the 17 objectives of sustainable development are highlighted, emphasizing the strategies agreed to lead to decisive actions for the implementation of the 2030 Agenda. The elements of the Agenda that shape the conceptual and institutional framework in which significant achievements are expected in extending education for sustainable development at all levels, as well as the criticisms formulated on this topic at the political and academic level are studied. In conclusion, relevant aspects of the process of universalization of education for sustainable development are outlined, with special emphasis on the role of the young generation in this complex process.
