Summary/Abstract: The study of literature raises issues in contemporary school, in a society in which the young people’s interest targets other fields of study and in which the classical text is no longer of their concern. Not even national literature attracts pupils and students, and their teachers seem to face a mission destined to failure. Even more, the introduction of the literary text in the study of foreign languages proves to be delicate, other types of texts (authentic ones) being nowadays preferred in foreign languages didactics. However, our belief is that the literary text could be successfully approached in a foreign language course, provided it is wisely chosen and provided the teacher manages to bring forward an interesting viewpoint. Our presentation attempts to show how a Romanian classical text could be used in a Contemporary French course, thus in a contrastive approach, a course destined to Romanian students. Vasile Alecsandri’s plays are very interesting given the cultural context in which they emerged, in an era in which France (and consequently, French) was a model for the Romanian society. The chosen excerpts focus on Coana Chirița, a vivid and charming character of the Romanian theatre, whose language seem to be a very rich object of study for young Romanian students studying French.
