Summary/Abstract: In this paper, we propose a comparison between the teaching of Romanian literature immediately after the Revolution in 1989 and the teaching of this subject in today’s Romania. We examine the first textbooks of Romanian language and literature for the final high school years published after the Revolution as well as the school programs for the same subject currently used in high school. The outcome of this brief comparison is that the path followed by the teaching of national literature was long after the Revolution in Romania. That implies a considerable effort on behalf of the teachers who might not be sufficiently prepared to make it. As in any other field of social life, freedom has a cost which may render it difficult to manage.
