Summary/Abstract: Evaluating the translations of literary text is a problematic issue. It becomes problematic especially when we don´t know and don´t speak the language of the original work. There is a tension between the respect to the original text and respect to the expected children´s reader to which the translation will be directed. Dealing with the children´s literature in translation, this tension must be naturally taken into account. Not only the evaluation of translation quality is ambiguous. Searching for the reliable criteria for recognizing the universal validity of literary text is similarly demanding. In this paper we focus our attention on the problem areas with which the translator has to confront during the translation process, as well as focus on the situation of child reader who comes into vivid literary-communicative contact with the translated literary artifact during the reception process.
