Summary/Abstract: Nowadays, there is a growing interest in the development of authentic leadership. The reason for this is the positive implications that such leadership has on organizations, employees and the business as a whole. A values-based and ethics-based leadership creates organizations that can achieve and sustain long-term success. Authentic leaders know who they are, what they believe in, act honestly and openly, and based on their beliefs. Authentic leaders build trust with employees, by encouraging open communication, sticking to their ideals and presenting themselves as they really are. Since this is a relatively new stage in the development of leadership, the characteristics of this style, as well as its consequences, have not yet been fully explored. However, research to date shows the positive implications that this leadership provides, as it reaches out to all employees in the organization. In the continuation of this paper, we will explore this style of leadership, reviewing the existing professional literature on this style.
