Summary/Abstract: In this paper we submit a closer analysis of 27 volumes of printings, from the basic documentary collection of the Library of the Museum of Alba Iulia, carefully cataloguing all their bibliological marks, such as stamps and call numbers, ex-libris of an institutional or personal library, as well as any other older property marks which may appear within them. The primary purpose of our approach is to establish, as accurately as possible, which of the respective volumes, among the oldest of the mentioned Library, could come from the first Library of the respective institution, during the custody of the museum's founder, Adalbert Cserni (1842-1916). This fact may have a reconstructive, retroactive nature necessary for establishing/restoring the composition of this important source of historical, archaeological documentation, but also general cultural enlightening from Alba Iulia, which was founded in 1888 and about which we do not have a whole image nowadays (not even a partial one, more coherent, thematically pursued independently). The second important aspect revealed by us, on the occasion of this primary evaluation of this type, is that of highlighting the collateral value, often indirect, of authentic collectible ex-libris of the library stamps, their current or older call numbers (from the same public library holdings, from an older one, or any private book collection), personal ex-libris (denoting the origin of copies from other previous book collections), or other marks and notes, from their leaves, all of which have the value of ownership marks (of previous owners), often successively spread on pages of books. This is especially important for exemplifying the circulation of the copies and the way of building up the different book collections, from the inventory of which the copies were part of (at one point). Thus, we also want to theorize how we relate to these direct signs or collateral, indirect, of affiliation of the specimens to different public or private collections of books, from different periods, indicating their real value of ex-libris (be it deduced, even when it is only implicit). We also consider that accuracy, attention to detail, always leads to a certain methodological and knowledge progress, in the field of bibliology and history of culture in particular (as is the case here), which determined us to approach the current topic, deciphering it theoretically and practically, advocating for its cultivation in a systemic way, which correctly tells us about the past and its cultural heritage.
