TRACTATUL DESPRE LOCURILE THEOLOGICESTI, BLAJ, 1811 – AN OLD ROMANIAN WORK LEFT OUT OF THE OLD ROMANIAN BIBLIOGRAPHY

Summary/Abstract: This study underlines the necessity of introducing an old printed work from Blaj in the Old Romanian Bibliography. It is a certified edition of considerable importance, two copies of which were discovered in Cluj in 1982. The work seems to be a compilation of texts made by a local theologian, rather than a translation of a European work. Identifying the author of the texts is difficult, but it would provide more data on the cultural environment of Blaj, presided by Bishop Ioan Bob. Interpreting the document is all the more intriguing, as the text contains echoes of the theological disputes that took place during Enlightenment and it clearly promotes Gallican concepts. According to Ioan Chindris, the work seems to be the only theological treaty of its kind printed in Romania before 1830.
