Summary/Abstract: The article is devoted to one demonym in the local Hutsul tradition, which, although well described, requires further study. The article presents the results of the analysis of the previous etymologies of the term, important clarifications are made. Arguments are given in favor of the origin of the term osinavets from the word-amulet osina, which in turn represents an elliptical form of the curse So that aspen to you (aspen stake to You)! This etymology explains the phonetic, accentological, semantic characteristics of different variants of the term. Ethnolinguistic material does not give reason to consider the term under discussion as modified old rus. sinьсь (hypothesis of N. I. Zubov).
