Summary/Abstract: The article is an attempt to give an answer to various little known questions in the history of one of the most terrible wars as regards length after the end of the Second World War. On the basis of new data are given detailed explanations and analyses of the separate periods of the war and many of the difficulties in achieving the goals of Soviet military policy for the Central Asian region. Many new pieces of information are provided about the military operations conducted separately or jointly with the governmental troops of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, military operations against the .irreconcilable opposition., as well as about the policy on the domestic and the international arena of the governments of Nur Taraki, Babrak Karmal and Nadjibulla during the war years. At the end of the study an apparatus criticus is given with part of the notes being introduced for the first time in Bulgarian science.
