Summary/Abstract: Source / The authors present the contents of 29 unknown documents and pieces of documental evidence from the period of the war between the Soviet Union and Afghanistan from 1979– 1989. These texts reveal the policies of the CPSU leaders and of the Democratic Republic of Afghanistan, as well as details of the tactics, the Soviet Army’s skillfulness in military operations and strategy at the time when the 40th Separate Army was in Afghanistan. The texts are accompanied by the necessary explanatory notes. Undoubtedly, the material would be of interest for specialists and for anyone who is interested in the mechanism of the wars from the end of the 20th century.
