Summary/Abstract: The ethnodemographic characteristic of the town of Haskovo shows significant presence of three main ethnoreligious communities - Muslim, Jewish and Armenian. The ethnic groups that form them - Turks, Jews and Armenians - came to town during different historical periods. During the first half of the 20th century, all of them had their own institutions - religious councils. They were the official representatives of the ethnoreligious communities before the town officials and they joined two basic tendencies. On the one hand the religious council - Muslim, Jewish, Armenian - preserved the identicity of the community, on the other hand - carried out its gradual integration among the other communities.
