Summary/Abstract: This publication presents Belgian diplomatic documents kept in the records department of the Ministry for Foreign Affairs of the Kingdom of Belgium and contains information on the developments in Macedonia in the period 1897-1903. The documents are mostly diplomatic reports and political circular letters kept in three files. The information they contain is of divers character and supplies data both on the development of the national liberation movement in Macedonia and the actions and the politics of the Great Powers in this region. A large part of the circular letters is summaries of reports from the Balkan capitals and shows the assessments and the behaviour of each one of the Balkan States with regard to Macedonia. Considerable space has been allocated to Bulgaria: the activities undertaken by the government and the Prince as well as the countrywide movement in defence of the Bulgarian population in Macedonia. The analysis of these documents reveals the predestination of Bulgarian national cause in this region in spite of the unambiguous convention between the Great Powers to preserve the status quo in the Balkans and the clearly expressed aspirations of the rest of the Balkan States.
