Summary/Abstract: In late 1903 those in office in Athens began to abandon their reserved attitude towards the Andart idea (armed methods of imposing Grecism) and gradually to commit themselves to the implementation of this idea. The first step in this respect was the creation of the Macedonian Committee in December 1903 apparently as a private association. Meanwhile it was also resorted to the appointment of new active consuls and particularly of Koromilas in Plovdiv, and from May 1904 - in Salonica. With the assistance of the Commander-in-Chief Prince Constantine, he chose a few officers of the Greek army to help him in propaganda work under the cover of consular clerks. At the beginning of 1904 the Macedonian Committee and the Government sent to Macedonia an intelligence mission of four officers and four persons accompanying them to study the conditions for a forthcoming expansion of the Andart campaign. The Bulgarian renegades Kote and Pavle Kirov accompanied the Greeks. From a certain moment on differences appearance in the views of the officers as to the tactics of action. This resulted in the recall of the mission while the accompanying persons and the Bulgarian renegades remained for some time in Macedonia, trying without success to defeat Mitre Vlaha. As a result of the differences in the views of the officers Melas and Kondoulis on the one side and Kolokotronis and Papoulyas on the other, a temporary standstill occurred in the process of adopting the Andart idea and its realization.
