Summary/Abstract: The article deals with the problem of reception of A. Gaidar’s work in People’s Poland (1945 - 1965). The books of that excellent writer have enjoyed a great popularity in this country, which is witnessed by the size of the editions and continually reappearing new impressions of his works. Gaidar’s work was also properly reflected in the opinions of Polish literary criticism, particularly in the earliest postwar years, when attempts were undertaken at a re-valuation of the hither to produced Polish literature for the youngest citizens of this country. The attention of Polish literary critics writing on Gaidar was focussed mainly on two problems, i.e.: on the very great educational value of his works and the formation of favourable features in his characters and on the artistic form and creative method of the author of 'Military secret'. According to the prevailing opinion of Polish literary criticism the features deserving special emphasis are the lack of moralizing and didacticism in Gaidar’s works, and his serious attitude to his young readers, too. In the early post-war years critics demanded from Polish writers that they should follow the example of Gaidar’s manner of writing. The author of the article also presents the story of the unsuccessful attempt of transplanting to the polish youth “the Timur movement”. There is a marked decline in the interest in Gaidar in this country after 1964.
