Summary/Abstract: The authors discussod in the present article the problems of the theory and practice of the Soviet school of translation which was created on the basis of the rich internal and external literary relations. Particular attention was paid by the authors to such problems as identity and adequacy, relations and mutual connection of the theory of literature and linguistic aspects in the process of translation, the problem of text, the problem of mutual relation of the study in translation and other scholarly disciplines and so on. The principles of Soviet study in translation (translatibility, adequacy as far as meaning is concerned, as stylistics, etc. functional correlation, etc.) were defined against the background of general theoretical problems. The authors analysed as well the basic terminology (translation, theory, comparative, confrontative, etc.) which was precisely defined on the basis of contemporary theoretical studies and versatile practice in translations.
