Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the fundam ental qualitative and quantitativ changes undergone by primary morphemes of nouns in feminine gender on the paradigmatic and derivational axes. A strictly phonological investigation consists in preparing aninventary of the phonemes of the given language and systemising them. The phonological level should not be confused with the morphological one whose substance is allomorph. Isomorphism which can be established between the phonological and the morphological levels may be the reason why some linguists do not differenciate the two levels. The morpheme is a linguistic phenomenon of a higher rank than the phoneme and it has more possibilities to form variants. Allomorphs are formed either by replacing one phoneme by another or by changing allophones. The number primary of allomorphs of Russian nouns in feminine gender differs from 1 to 10. Morphemes of two and three primary forms are considered typical for the Russian language. The author did not aim at great precisionin the description of primary allomorphicity, but rather wished to point out the fact that it is often included in historical phonetics and does not have synchronic interpretation in descriptive grammars.
