With the reference to used and established meth-odologies in previous researches (social learning, feminist theory of knowledge, analysis of virtual texts and etc.), using quantitative and qualitative research methods, there were efforts to evaluate, weather there were positive fea-tures in the regional press newspapers to develop gender equal opportunities (frequency of articles about the posi-tive partnership between man and women in public and private sphere, ratio of positive publications in editorial about men / women activities in social life, frequency of texts, propagating the positive stereotype as one of ways to the gender equality at the transition period in compari-son to the traditional case of stereotype, and etc.). Already in the first research (there were analyzed editorials of above mentioned newspapers of January, July, October of 2001 also of October of 2002, ascertained the situation of gender policy in the regional mass media: as in the educa-tional system, mass media being more flexible evidences partiality in regard to genders (traditional stereotype, non-depiction of women / man in public / private spheres, disbalance in reflection of genders). There ascertained not only the hole situation of gender policy in the regional mass media, but also the situation and factors of concrete newspaper, region: policy on gender topics depends on the status of the newspaper (private or financed by the local government), regularity of journalist group, educa-tion (employees having journalists education are more receptive to new topics). Regional newspapers totally differ in the involvement for the inculcation of the gender equality policy. In the article is proved that in the regional Lithuanian newspapers phenomena of maintaining gender equality are seen (new roles of women in the social life are activated, the examples of gender partnership in poli-tics, health service, sports, education, business, decision-making government, even in crime are presented), but journalists lack competence of educating full gender part-nership, not all journalists understand social gender, equal gender relationship as one of the indicators of democratic society.
