Summary/Abstract: Nowadays schools in Lithuania are involved in the systematically developing process of change and mod-ernization, which is closely linked to the usage of infor-mational technologies in the process of education. In Lithuania, as well as in the Middle and Eastern Europe, systematical research of such changes is quite new and it has been expanding lately, thus makes the results of the investigation determinant. The problem is based on the fact that in studies, which analyse the appli-cation of ICT in the process of education, we usually come to contradictory statements. Many works analyse only the criteria of quantity which can be simply esti-mated, but it frequently leads to fragmentariness and jug-handiness. The current research is based on hypotheses that factors, which influence the application of ITC in the educational process, can be related to school environment and teachers’ attitude traditionally treated as conservative or traditionally stubborn. The objects of the research are factors, which can influence positively the process of the efficient use of computers in the educational process. The goal of the research is to analyse how ICT can be used in the process of teaching (speaking about Ši-auliai secondary schools). The purpose was achieved by working out specific tasks: finding out the content of these factors; preparation of a scheme to analyse quantita-tive and qualitative changes; setting out of the items which can influence the integration of ICT; defining the influence of “traditionalism at school”. 16% teachers (291) of Šiauliai secondary schools took part in the research. Their average age is 41 year. Women make 87% of all number. Such proportion re-flects the factual demographic situation in Šiauliai. The survey shows that existing environment is not positive to extend the usage of ICT in the process of edu-cation. Centralization and decentralization, the violation in hierarchy order, management and decision making have significant importance for school development; it leaves every single school aside from the modernization process. The survey also states that educational pro-grammes are not systematically used at schools. The main reason for occasional usage of such programmes occurs due to insufficient supply of computers and computer software, low teachers’ computer competence, lack of definite goals speaking about ICT usage at school.
