Summary/Abstract: During the first half of the 19th century, mainly due to political and economic reasons, the process of settlement of Bulgarians in Ottoman Salonica intensified and a Bulgarian national community was formed there. This article aims to present the sea through the eyes of the Bulgarians who lived or visited Salonica in the late nineteenth and early twentieth century. The text analyzes the different points of view presented in the Bulgarian memoir and fiction.
