Summary/Abstract: The paper and discusses the competition for best new Croatian words, which has been annually taking place in Croatia since 1992. There is a report on the objectives of the contest, on past contests and on the selected and awarded words. The paper also explores, describes and explains and the peculiarities of the Croatian contest in the international context, especially in relation to European and American contests for best new words. Therefore, the Croatian contest is compared with these two contests.
