Summary/Abstract: In the second decade of the 21st century, there was a definite intensification of China’s interest in the Middle East. Since then, the Middle East has become one of the priority areas of Chinese investments, interests and goals represented by Beijing’s foreign policy. This resulted from several determinants. First of all, the beginning of the second decade of the 21st century marks the emergence of the so-called Fifth Generation of China’s Leaders. Xi Jinping abandoned the low profile strategy and gave priority to the implementation of Chinese Dream with its leading goal to reconstruct Greater China and experience the renaissance of the modern state that has already influenced various parts of the world, including the Middle East. Moreover, Beijing’s interest in the Middle East has focused on economic and technological determinants (oil imports), the absorbtion of technological innovations by the region’s countries (including 5G and cooperation with Huawai) as well as the countries’ location along the New Silk Road. Additionally, to achieve its goals in the Middle East, Beijing has to face competition with the United States. Therefore, China has adopted a strategy of non-military engagement in the Middle East without supporting any side of the conflict. Pax Americana versus Pax Sinica in the third decade of the 21st century will become a permanent determinant shaping the Middle East balance of power, with the permanent intensification of China’s influence in the region.
