Summary/Abstract: The article presents the results of comparative studies of the intensity of burnout syndrome in the group of managers. Over 2,000 people working in various workplaces were examined. About 200 people were qualified with a high probability of occurrence of burnout syndrome symptoms for statistical analysis. The Polish version of the AVEM Questionnaire for Behavior and Experience (Arbeitsbeechogenes Verhaltens- und Erlebensmuster, Schaarschmidt, Fischer, 1997) was used in the research. The main components of the syndrome were selected , especial ly the lack of ability to cope with failure as an important reason for the rapid development of symptoms. The results obtained show the existence of common tendencies in the formation of symptoms of the syndrome (excessive perfectionism, quick resignation in the situation of failure, increasing isolation from work) found in the groups of managers of both sexes. The possibilities of preventing burnout syndrome focused on strengthening the ability to cope with failure mainly for people striving for perfection are presented.
