Summary/Abstract: Born on February 25, 1833, in Roman, the son of Alexandru D. Sturdza Miclăușanu and Ecaterina Sturdza, Dimitrie A. Sturdza was a worthy successor of his illustrious parents. Despite being bestowed with the highest assignments, both in his political and his cultural activities, Dimitrie A. Sturdza always longed for a military career. While his wish never came true, as a politician and minister of defence he did play a major role in consolidating the Romanian army.
