Summary/Abstract: Dimitrie A. Sturdza was born in 1833, into a powerful and influential aristocratic Moldavian family. His father was the vornic Alexandru D. Sturdza who died, unfortunately, in 1848. Dimitrie A. Sturdza began his studies in Iassy. At the age of seventeen, he was sent abroad, in Germany, by his mother, where he continued his education (1850-1855). He studied Law in different univer-sities. Among his professors was the great historian of the nineteen century, Leopold von Ranke. Consequently, Dimitrie A. Sturdza acquired a broad knowledge in various domains in German universities, which later, during his political career was applied successfully in Romania.
