Summary/Abstract: The paper exposes the nature of scientific responsibilities from the 30s of the 19th century to the 30s of the 20th century Georgia on the background of the social cataclysms, based on the private letters of Georgian scientist-historians. The letters obviously show us the role of Georgian scientist-historians in the process of social development, the impact of the political and social situations on their fate and world outlook, the attitudes of the certain part of the society and regime's leaders towards their activities, which often was characterized by conflicts. The letters approve that in the time of social cataclysms, as never before, the issue of scientific responsibility becomes actual and the future of the scientist, his existence depends on the goodwill of the regime creators. Such an environment is fertilized by an irresponsible civil position of the authority’s servants. In such social conditions, scientist's fate is sometimes aggravated by the intellectual unpreparedness of the mass, which becomes a reason for the unacceptability of the scientific thoughts and for the indifferent and sometimes cynical attitudes towards scientific activities. There was such a situation in Georgia in the discussion period. The issue of scientific responsibility does not lose its actuality in any epoch, moreover in our century. This can be said especially about transitional periods when there are so many social challenges. This is responsibility of modern science to objectively illuminate the past events in order to avoid mistakes and determine the correct priorities.
