Summary/Abstract: The paper presents the assumptions of European Labour Market Model as a derivative of European Social Model (EMS). The article describes the traditional ways of achieving the objectives of EMS on the labour market showing their imperfections. Some comparisons to the American Labour Market Model were also made. It was considered that the idea of flexicurity entails in essence an attempt to shape a new model of the labour market – integrating the two models mentioned above. Conducted considerations demonstrate that the implementation of this model in Poland can be associated with some specific problems. These problems relate to the possibility of an equal level of social security, coherent policy of professional development of people with various form of employment and the lack of tradition of social dialogue.
