Summary/Abstract: In this paper I am formulating some hypotheses about why the verbs'regret' and 'know' behave differently relatively to the presupposed truth of their complement sentences. It would seem that the verb 'regret' presupposes the truth of its complement sentences much more often than the verb 'know'. I am formulating three hypotheses explaining this state of affairs, and I am analyzing the weaknesses in each of the three.
