Summary/Abstract: Formal ontologies are logical ways of dividing the domain of everything existent, i.e., they are theories about what kind of basic entities we have to suppose are out there, from a logical point of view. Formal ontologies can be more or less complicated, abundant or austere. Frege’s formal ontology is famously simple: everything can be divided into concepts, objects and relations between them. I argue that Frege’s formal ontology can be seen as a simplified version of much older one, namely Aristotle’s.
