Summary/Abstract: Originally, it seems, from the Frankish Kingdom, although for a long time believed to be Irish, St. Fridolin came from a very wealthy noble family but chose poverty and the service of Christ. He has made an impressive mission and, having a special reverence for St. John the Baptist, has built several churches in his honor, in territories that today belong to France, Switzerland, Germany and Austria. The patron of the Swiss canton of Glarus, as well as of the cities of Bad Säckingen (Germany) and Näfels (Switzerland), is celebrated by the Orthodox Church every year on March 6th.
