Summary/Abstract: Characterized by expressing the sadness, which can evolve from melancholy and regret to soul pain, the elegy has attracted many poets throughout the ages. In Romanian literature, in the era on which we focused our attention, many poets were attracted to such lyrics. In our study we focus on some important names in the history of Romanian literature, such as I. Heliade-Rădulescu, Vasile Cîrlova, Grigore Alexandrescu, Dimitrie Bolintineanu, Vasile Alecsandri, Gheorghe Asachi and aim to highlight some of the most beautiful elegies they wrote during the period around the revolution of 1848. There are poems full of sensitivity, sometimes crossed by melancholy or even sadness, in which the elegiac verses spring from unshared love, or mourn the death of the beloved being, or are crossed by patriotism and longing for the homeland.
