Summary/Abstract: The article shows and analyzes the development of employment of disabled people in Poland during the economic transformation period, that is since 1989, when the construction of a free market based on private property started, until the present day. The current rules for determining disability and inability to work in the context of the volume of the labor supply of people of working age with a legally certified disability have also been subjected to a detailed analysis. The paper also presents determinants affecting their employment in the open and protected market as well as their decisions on taking up a job. It discusses the average annual total supply and its components, as well as determines indicators of economic activity of the disabled. The main results of this paper lead to the conclusion that the disabled are people with health and function impairments that affect their work results, and their employment depends on the health and demographic situation in the first place, as well as on decisions of institutions determining disability.
