Summary/Abstract: To explain todays New Left in America means to explain a certain mood, a feeling characteristic of the different groups united under that common name. Through the use of such common name an injustice lis being made to. each one of them because they all reject this equalisation form its starting point: confronted with one and the same goal, they nevertheless refuse to harmonise their viewpoints about achieving it. That is why what the New Left movement has achieved so far is much closer to creating an atmosphere of cynical rejection of the institutiulised ways of life, both merely social and political, then to answer the quest for their political identity. A relation existing among the different factions of this devided body can best be described as »symbiotic«.
