Summary/Abstract: In this text the author attempts to evaluate the role of the motif of meeting in Adam Mickiewicz’s works. The meeting itself is portrayed as an element used by the poet for developing his reflections on the topic of the essence of human identity. It is formed in relation to the lyrical “You”, mostly taking up one of the two forms - the met one either constitutes or disintegrates the identity of the one meeting. The author tries to present the evolution of the poet’s thoughts, which eventually leads to contemplation of the possibility of meeting God. It takes place on the way to a nearly complete unification with the other one, that a person goes through in the state of a specific kind of ecstasy. Undergoing such an experience is meant to make one aware of their spiritual structure, bearing signs of divinity. The Mickiewiczesque vision of God and human cannot be in accord with Christian theology, which is duly indicated in the text.
