Institutionalized inter-municipal cooperation networks in the area of solid waste management in Poland

Summary/Abstract: The article presents the scale of inter-municipal cooperation (IMC) in the municipal solid waste sectorin Poland. It examines the number of IMC associations and IMC private law companies, their spatial distributionand the number of their participants in 2015. To detect the changes of the IMC scale between 2006 and2016, the number of functioning IMC associations and the size of their budgetary expenditures on municipalsolid waste management in each year are compared. The essential sources of the data used in the analysis includethe registry of associations, the Bulletin of Public Information, Ministry of Finance data and the PolishCompany Register. The study has shown that at national level the percentages of municipalities cooperating insolid waste sector in the form of a company and association are comparable. At the same time the scale of IMCdiffers significantly between regions and it was changing between 2006 and 2016. It increased especially afterthe reform of the municipal solid waste management sector in 2013.
