Summary/Abstract: This article discusses the essence, objective and object of the European Investigation Order (EIO). The author also focuses on the EIO issuance and how the Order is transferred to the executing state. The article discusses the origins of the instrument and compares it with previous regulations concerning cooperation in criminal matters in the European Union as regards transborder collection of evidence. The author also focuses on practical issues related to the EIO issuance in the course of preliminary proceedings.
