Summary/Abstract: The paper looks at the origins of the Polish Special Operations Forces (SOF). It highlights the beginnings of Polish special units: from Poland’s gaining independence in 1918, through World War II, the Polish People’s Republic, until the present days. The underlying goal of the paper is to describe SOF in times of the Polish political transformation. The paper focuses on the reform of the Polish Armed Forces Command and Control System, launched in 2014. According to several consistent opinions, the reform had a direct impact on the current structure of the SOF and gave rise to several uncertainties, doubts and problems that occur in this kind of armed forces. The paper highlights the fact that despite a number of difficulties arising from structural reorganisations and changes in subordination, the SOF have consistently maintained their operational capabilities. As far as of special operations, the Polish SOF are perceived as one of the leaders in NATO.
