Summary/Abstract: RESEARCH OBJECTIVE: The aim of the article is to present family resources, extraordinary and shared by each family potentials enabling them to fulfill their basic needs, dealing with evolutionary crises and unexpected events. THE RESEARCH PROBLEM AND METHODS: The proposed research problem refers to an answer to a question: what are the family resources, what is their aetiology. The results of analysed source literature were used along with empirical examples from therapeutic work with families. THE PROCESS OF ARGUMENTATION: At the foundation of counselling and psychotherapy family of the patient, being a group patient itself is considered a key institution forming a human being. From a perspective of family resources, the interest in deficits and dysfunctions of the family is left out in favour of bringing positive experiences, models of behaviour, thoughts and emotions into focus. Undertaking an analysis of the academic papers, including studies of therapeutic nature and the theoretical framework, which the concept of family resources stems from – sociological and constructivist, the categories of family resources were isolated along with usage of empirical examples from the therapeutic practice. RESEARCH RESULTS: The analyses conducted show that the family resources constitutes a multifactorial potential enabling development of the particular person and the whole family. They come in different forms. Their sources may be localised in attributes of the particular persons, family and its surroundings. In the process of helping the family, a therapist contributes faith/conviction about the possibilities of the family, searches its potential, facilitates gaining new competences by the family members. CONCLUSIONS, INNOVATIONS, AND RECOMMENDATIONS: • Family resources form a valuable approach enabling the family to achieve positive results, expected alternations or overcome the crisis. They can initially be discovered by professional therapists accompanying the family, but eventually it is worthwhile that they are identified by the family members as such. • Family resource encompasses a very wide range of potentials localised in time, experiences and feelings. • All families have resources that are manageable developmentally.
