Summary/Abstract: Combating global threats, the European Union is trying to promote European standards of human rights and fundamental freedoms, including gender equality, and promote the principles of good governance. An unquestionable instrument allowing the European Union’s direct involvement and transfer of European influence is provided by the Common Security and Defence Policy (CSDP), formerly known as European Security and Defence Policy (ESDP) and different types of civilian missions and military operations. Missions are a good instrument to implement the elements of (top-down) Europeanisation in law enforcement, security and justice bodies operating out of Europe, and to transfer values, activities, patterns, best practices and experiences that so far have been unknown to their current recipients.
