Summary/Abstract: Democratic People’s Republic of Korea (DPRK) presents threat to regional and global security already since the beginning of the 1990s. The recent development showed on one hand signs of worsening the crisis when on October, 9 2006 the DPRK conducted a nuclear test at Gilju site near Yonbyon. On the other hand the beginning of 2007 brought bilateral negotiation between the representatives of Washington and Pyongyang. The attention of regional actors and moreover the attention of world community concentrates lately mainly on peaceful solution of North Korean nuclear program. This issue however is just one part of a bigger problem that is the existence of North Koreas unpredictable regime. In spite of continuous globalization process the DPRK lives isolated from the outside world. North Korea is a typical authoritarian state with a single leader whit unlimited powers in his own hands. The situation in DPRK has a big infl uence on the situation in North East Asia Region. On the solution of the North Koreas problem are interested the regional powers as China, Japan, Russia, South Korea and the global power, US. Relations between the US and DPRK are in the post-cold war era crucial for the development of the nuclear program. The way how to solve this problem is Six Party Talks process which began in Beijing in august 2003. The talks are on the way, several agreement has been concluded, some of the provision were even fulfi lled but the negotiations still didn’t bring a desirable result – complete, irreversible abandoning of nuclear program.
