The Imagination of Enlargement

Summary/Abstract: Primarily there were 12 initiatory signatories of the treaty on establishment of NATO, within next 40 years 7 more countries joined NATO, later, after the Prague summit in 2002, the organization enlarged its number to 26 countries, and nowadays NATO has 28 member states. The growth of its membership was registered mainly in last ten years and the offi cial documents issued by NATO referred to this trend as to possibility to enable participation on the responsibility of this, initially euro-Atlantic grouping, for the overall European – nowadays perceived more broader as global security.
