Summary/Abstract: The aim of the article is to present the issue of a subjective approach to social work with the family, including values. The particular attention has been paid to two values: freedom and responsibility, which have been presented in a philosophical and pedagogical perspective. These values are crucial in contemporary work with multi-problem families and are the issue of considerations of many researchers, becoming one of the most important tasks for social workers and family assistants. The article aims to show the opportunities and obstacles that appear in social work in relation to professionals and to multi-problem families. Authors were also interested in the ethical aspects of activities of social workers, including ethical codes and research conducted in this area. The study also includes an attempt to outline the postulates for social work education, regarding professional approach to values in helping professions.
