The data on household’sbudgets obtained regularly by GUS was applied to carry out this study. The study was carried outfrom 2003 to 2013. The data shown there is a significant correlation between household’s ownassessment of financial standing and surplus of income over expenditures (correlation coefficientin 2003 was 0.778 and in 2013 it was 0.862) as well as strong correlation (correlation coefficientwas 0.925) between the changes in household’s own assessment of financial standing and changing surplus. Additionally, it was determined that the highest surplus of income was not producedby households with the highest income. In 2003, the highest surplus was produced by white- andblue-collar workers, while in 2013 by farmers and white-collar workers. The most considerablechanges within the time of study occurred in farmers’ households. Although the surplus of realincome over eexpenditures was increasing within the time of study, it was noticed that from 2010on the subjective assessment of financial standing was decreasing in the households of workers(both blue- and white-collar) and those self-employed.
